Pelvic Floor Therapy for Bladder Issues.

Bladder symptoms are common. They are not normal, and you do not have to live with them. Whether you are leaking when you laugh, running to the bathroom every hour, or waking up multiple times a night, pelvic floor PT is one of the most effective first-line treatments. And in most cases, it works.

Common bladder symptoms I treat.

Urinary leakage when coughing, sneezing, laughing, running, or jumping
Frequent urination throughout the day
Strong urgency or feeling like you cannot hold it
Waking up at night to urinate (nocturia)
Difficulty fully emptying the bladder
Bladder pressure, discomfort, or pelvic heaviness
Interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome)
Leaking during pregnancy or postpartum
Bladder changes after prostate surgery
"Just in case" peeing that has become a habit

Why bladder symptoms happen.

Bladder symptoms often develop when the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding systems are not working together the way they should.

Pelvic floor muscle weakness
Pelvic floor muscle tension or difficulty relaxing (often missed)
Pregnancy and postpartum changes
Hormonal changes during perimenopause or menopause
Past injuries that altered movement or posture
Core weakness or coordination issues
Compensation habits that built up over years

What pelvic floor therapy for bladder issues actually involves.

Your first visit is 60 minutes. We start with a conversation about your symptoms, history, and goals. Then a movement and posture assessment. An internal pelvic floor exam may be offered if it is clinically useful, but only with your full consent. From there, we build a plan that includes hands-on treatment, breath and core work, bladder retraining, and a home program.

Most clients see meaningful improvement in 4 to 8 visits. Some need fewer. Some need more. Either way, you will have a clear plan from the first session.

Why this practice for this problem.

You see Dr. Bethany Reuter every visit. Full 60 minutes. Private treatment room. No aides. No rotating providers. No rushed reassessments. That continuity matters for bladder symptoms, where progress depends on a therapist who actually knows your body and your story.

Dr. Bethany Reuter, DPT, owner of Enhance Physical Therapy in Stillwater, MN

Hi, I am Dr. Bethany Reuter.

I started Enhance PT because I was tired of watching patients get rushed through their care. After years in traditional clinics, I knew there was a better way to practice physical therapy. One where the person on the table actually came first.

I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy with advanced training in pelvic health, orthopedics, dry needling, visceral manipulation, and concussion rehabilitation. I treat every client like the only client on my schedule, because for that hour, they are.

If you have been brushed off, told to just live with it, or shuffled between providers who do not talk to each other, I want you to know there is another path. And I would be honored to walk it with you.

Common questions about bladder PT.

Will I need an internal pelvic exam?
Not always. An internal exam is offered only when it would meaningfully change your treatment plan, and only with your full consent. Many clients see strong progress without one.
How long until I see results?
Most clients notice meaningful change within 4 to 8 visits. Some symptoms improve faster. The first visit gives you a realistic timeline.
Can I keep exercising during treatment?
Yes, and usually we adjust what you are doing rather than stop it. Movement is part of recovery.
Do you treat men's bladder issues?
Yes. I work with men experiencing leakage after prostate surgery, urgency, frequency, and chronic prostatitis. Learn more on the Men's Pelvic Health page.
