Urinary Incontinence Treatment in Stillwater, MN.
Leaking is common. It is not normal, and it is not something you have to live with. Pelvic floor physical therapy is the first-line, evidence-backed treatment for urinary incontinence.
What urinary incontinence is.
Urinary incontinence is any involuntary loss of urine. The two most common types are stress incontinence (leaking with cough, sneeze, laugh, run, or jump) and urge incontinence (a sudden, strong urge followed by leakage). Many people have both, which is called mixed incontinence.
What people most often misunderstand is that incontinence is not a willpower issue or a kegel deficit. It is a coordination issue between the pelvic floor muscles, the bladder, the breath, and the core. Treating it requires looking at the whole system.
When to seek physical therapy.
- • Leaking with cough, sneeze, laugh, run, or jump
- • Sudden strong urgency, sometimes with leakage before you reach the bathroom
- • Going to the bathroom more than 8 times a day
- • Waking up multiple times at night to urinate
- • "Just in case" peeing that has become a habit
- • Leaking after pregnancy or childbirth
- • Leaking after prostate surgery
How physical therapy helps.
Pelvic floor PT treats incontinence by retraining the muscles, coordination, and habits that drive it. That may include hands-on manual therapy, pelvic floor strengthening or down-training, bladder retraining, breath and core work, and a home program. Most clients see meaningful change in 4 to 8 visits.
What to expect.
60 minutes, one-on-one with Dr. Bethany. We talk through your symptoms, history, and goals. A movement and posture assessment. A pelvic floor assessment may be offered (internal or external) only if clinically useful and only with your consent. You leave with a clear plan and a take-home program.
Hi, I am Dr. Bethany Reuter.
I started Enhance PT because I was tired of watching patients get rushed through their care. After years in traditional clinics, I knew there was a better way to practice physical therapy. One where the person on the table actually came first.
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy with advanced training in pelvic health, orthopedics, dry needling, visceral manipulation, and concussion rehabilitation. I treat every client like the only client on my schedule, because for that hour, they are.
If you have been brushed off, told to just live with it, or shuffled between providers who do not talk to each other, I want you to know there is another path. And I would be honored to walk it with you.
